All dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are dietitians.

Dietitians are the only qualified and regulated health professionals who assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public health level. The title “Registered Dietitian” and “Dietitian/Dietician” is protected by law so that only qualified practitioners who have met the required education qualifications and continue to maintain their knowledge and skills through continuing professional development, can use that title. CORU is responsible for regulation of health and social care professionals under the Health and Social Care Professionals’ Act, 2005, in Ireland (INDI, 2022).

The terms nutritionist and nutritional therapist are not currently protected by law so people with widely different levels of training and knowledge can refer to themselves by these titles. It is important to check the credentials of who you are working with to ensure you are receiving the best care possible.

No, you do not need a referral to access services. You can self refer in to see me. With your consent I may liaise with your GP/Consultant where required to ensure you are receiving the best care from a multidisciplinary approach.

Absolutely. In Ireland, all dietetic services are covered by health insurance providers. You will receive a paid invoice for each appointment you attend which can be submitted to your insurance. Please check your plan for coverage of dietitian fees as it varies depending on the policy.

You can also claim health expense relief via Med 1 form.

I am a virtual practice, which means I do not offer any face-to-face options for consultations.

All consultations are carried out securely over Zoom from the comfort of your own home.

For the appointment you will need:

  • Internet access
  • A phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.
  • A camera (webcam or tablet/phone camera)
  • A microphone and speaker (this can be built into your phone/laptop already, or you can use a speaker or earphones and a microphone separately).

When you book a virtual consultation, you will receive a link to complete an assessment form securely online as well as a link to your virtual appointment, plus a reminder email 24 hours prior to your appointment. If you would prefer a telephone consultation please let Jess know and this will be arranged.

Receipts will be issued after the appointment/at the end of the programme via email

No problem. I offer free 15 mins discovery calls which give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have and for me to get to know you better. We can then decide together which service best suits your needs. Just pop me an email through the contact box on the website so schedule a call. To note: there is absolutely no obligation to purchase a service if you schedule a discovery call!

All payments are made securely via Stripe prior to your appointment/programme. Payment options are available for programmes which can be discussed on your discovery call/pre booking email.

Clinic times are available at different times throughout the week including weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. This is to ensure that I can provide an appointment time that suits your schedule.

The general types of questions that may be asked in your first consultation will include: what led you to seek out dietetic support, your expectations of working together, what your long term and short term goals are, a bit about yourself, reviewing recent and/or past bloodwork, looking at your medical history, family history, medications, supplements, bowel habits and any other issues you are experiencing surrounding food. This is then followed by a comprehensive history of your day-to-day diet, a bit about your activity levels and anything else that may be relevant. We then work on some options that may work for you and you can decide which path fits you best, which is the beauty of a person-centred approach.

If we are working together in an intuitive eating programme we will spend more time focusing on your past dieting history, your relationship with food as well as your current eating patterns and habits.
